The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is hiring a permanent part-time cook for the Douglas County Jail (DCJ). The DCJ houses between 25 and 50 full-time inmates each day and cooks are responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and organizing the kitchen to ensure proper preparation of meals in accordance with established laws and regulations governing food preparation. The DCSO employees one full time cook and is seeking to hire a permanent part-time cook at a salary of $12.00 per hour. Although the projected work schedules have not been decided as of the date of this advertisement, it is probable that the permanent part-time cook will be required to work one day each weekend. A food handler’s certificate is required for this position. If an applicant does not possess a food handler’s certificate, the DCSO will consider paying the cost for an applicant to attend the two-day class necessary to receive certification. Interested applicants can complete an application located on this webpage. It is anticipated that the part-time cook will begin employment at the DCSO by January 1, 2014. Questions regarding this position can be directed to Chief deputy Peter M. Buckley at (217) 253-2913.
