Joshua is a lifelong resident of Douglas County; he resides in rural Arcola with his wife, and two children.  Joshua began his employment at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in May of 2006, initially being hired as a Telecommunicator.  In June of 2007, Joshua was sworn in as a Part-time Deputy Sheriff and began attending the Part-time Police Academy while working full-time as a Telecommunicator.  In February of 2008, Joshua graduated from the Police Academy and began working full-time as a Deputy Sheriff for the Sheriff’s Ofc.  In May of 2008, Joshua completed the 80- hour law enforcement transition, certifying him as a full-time Deputy Sheriff/Police Officer in the State of Illinois.

In May of 2010, Joshua was assigned to the East Central Illinois Task Force as an Inspector.  In August of 2011, Joshua was promoted to Sergeant Deputy Sheriff and began supervising second and third shifts.  Joshua was elected Sheriff in 2018.  During Joshua’s time as a Deputy Sheriff, he received several awards for DUI enforcement.  In 2013, Joshua was nominated for the Medal of Valor with the Illinois Sheriff’s Association for a pursuit that spanned approximately 50 miles and went through 3 counties.  Ultimately the pursuit ended back in Douglas County where the occupants were arrested and found to have outstanding warrants for Armed Robbery.
