I was born in Robinson Illinois and graduated from there in 1965. I was raised on a small farm between Robinson and Oblong. I was the first of my family to go to college. My dad had 12 brothers and sisters and my mom had 15. I attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated in 1969 with a BS in Education degree in Mathematics with minors in chemistry and physics. I love history and with just 2 more courses I could have taught that too. I taught mathematics and computer sciences for 35 years in the Villa Grove School district. While at Eastern I met my wife, the former Susie Jones. We have been married 46+ years. We have two children. Our daughter Megan and husband Jason have 3 children and son Ben and wife Jessica have 1 child and are expecting another. I have been retired from teaching for 10 years and miss the daily contact with the students. I have been a photographer for 43 years and have enjoyed that profession very much. I had the honor of taking my 41st consecutive VG school graduation this year. CIVIC ACTIVITIES We are members of the Villa Grove United Methodist church and I am presently Chairman of the Administrative Council. I have served as president of the Villa Grove Educational Association and was part of negotiating our first contract with the district. I have been a Cub Scout Leader, belong to Rotary and Lions Club and have been president of each. Currently I am a member of the Villa Grove Park Board. I belong to the Douglas County Retired Teachers and was president of that group for four yeas. While teaching I created and sponsored our Photo Club. We had an average attendance of 40 members over a 25 year period. I always felt I was a better teacher when I knew and understood my students both in class and outside. I have coached softball for 25 years. 13 years were as an assistant coach at Villa Grove High School. I then coached or assisted travel softball for the least 12 years. I have coached ages 12-18.
