Richard "Dick" Hein was born in Peoria, IL in 1944 and lived in that area until moving to Arcola in 1950. He lived in Arcola until1958 when his family moved to Arthur, where he and his wife (Barbara) have lived since they were married in 1969.
Dick graduated from Arthur High School in 1963,and upon graduation, he joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam until1968. He worked with his parents at the Old Heidelberg in Arthur until1977 at which time he went to work for the State of Illinois Bridge Crew in Tuscola. He retired in 2002 with 25 years of service.
During his time in Arthur, Dick has been very active in the community and county. He has been a trustee of the Arthur Park District, Bourbon Township, Arthur Cemetery Board, and the Arthur Fire District. He was an EMT and fireman for 25 years. He served as an officer on the Douglas County Fire Assoc., Okaw Fire Assoc., and Moultrie Co. Dive and Rescue Team. He
was on the Board that started the 911System for Douglas County. He served as an Eagle Scout mentor for the past 15 years, and served on many other committees in Arthur. He was appointed to the County Board in 2014 to replace a dear friend, Ernie Bartholomew, who recently passed away.
